Stop The Flood!

In 2022, Nigeria faced a flood disaster that shook our nation to its core. The aftermath was devastating, leaving us with a heart-wrenching toll of over 662 lives lost, 2.4 million people displaced, 2,400 individuals injured, 82,035 homes damaged, and a staggering 332,327 hectares of land affected. The haunting truth is that these numbers represent more than just statistics – they signify the lives, dreams, and homes torn apart by the relentless power of floods. We cannot allow history to repeat itself.

The Urgent Call to Action

The people of Kogi State bore a significant brunt of this catastrophe. Over 514 communities were engulfed by the floodwaters, displacing 471,000 of our fellow citizens. Vital health facilities, critical for our well-being, were swept away, and the painful loss of 24 lives during the flood serves as a stark reminder of the urgency to act. We cannot wait for another tragedy to spur us into action.

The Alarming 2023 Forecast

The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has sounded an early warning through their 2023 Annual Flood Outlook. It paints a grim picture, with 11 out of 21 Local Governments in Kogi State identified as probable flood zones. The time to act is now – to equip ourselves with knowledge, resources, and unity against this looming threat.

Together, we can #StopTheFlood

But here’s the silver lining: together, we have the power to change this narrative. As a community, as a state, and as a nation, we can take steps to build resilience and safeguard our homes, our loved ones, and our future.

Our Call to Action

With this in mind, we are launching the #StopTheFlood Advocacy Campaign while maintaining our ongoing support for farmers impacted by the 2022 Ibaji LGA flood through ProjectRECOVER. Our goal is to raise awareness about the escalating dangers of flooding caused by climate change, rallying individuals, communities, and governments to proactively address flood risks and enhance resilience.

Together, we can #StopTheFlood
