ProjectRECOVER will help flood-prone rice-farming communities in Ibaji to significantly improve the lives of community members in several ways.
The project will provide humanitarian and livelihood recovery support to vulnerable families affected by the flood crisis, helping them regain their means of income and break the cycle of poverty and displacement. By implementing climate-resilient agricultural practices, the project will enhance food security within the community. Flood-tolerant crop varieties and improved farming practices will ensure continuous agricultural production, leading to increased food availability, improved nutrition, and reduced vulnerability to food shortages.
Furthermore, the disaster preparedness and early warning systems component of the project will empower farmers with knowledge and skills to respond effectively to flood events. Establishing evacuation routes, rescue procedures, and temporary shelter arrangements will enhance their safety and resilience during disasters. Additionally, the project’s efforts to facilitate access to insurance and financial support will provide a safety net for farmers in the event of crop losses due to floods. This will reduce their financial vulnerability and allow them to invest in sustainable farming practices, ultimately improving their economic stability and livelihoods.
